2013 WHSAA 4A State Wrestling Results-Trisha’s Recap (PHOTOS)

What an exciting weekend of wrestling at the Casper Events Center!  There were some disappointments, some upsets and some controversy, but that is to be expected...especially when it comes to wrestling!  Both of my boys wrestled for NCHS.   Keegan, my freshman, wrestled 120.  He had a good weekend until he came up against Gavin Wilson, a junior from Riverton that hehad beat at regionals after being down 12-1 going into the 3rd period.  Keegan ended up pinning him for the win.  The match was going ok until about 10 seconds before the end of the first period, Wilson ran a power half that was potentially dangerous, however, the ref did not see because of the position he was in.  Time ran out, and Keegan was injured.  It turned out that he had a dislocated shoulder and was unable to continue the match, or any other match for that matter.  Thanks to the quick work from the doctors that were volunteering their time from Casper Orthopedic, they were able to get Keegan's shoulder back in and he should be fine, just really sore and disappointed that things ended that way.

My son Bridger, a junior who wrestles 195, had a great weekend.  He wrestled up almost 20 pounds, since he weighs between 175-180 normally.  Bridger pinned his first opponent, then had the #1  state ranked Tevis Bartlett from Cheyenne, who won Nationals as a Freshman.  Bridger ended up pinned that match, then came back though the loser bracket.  The match that determined whether he would wrestle for 3rd & 4th or 5th & 6th was a bit controversial.  Bridger had his opponent pinned in the first period, but the wrestler scooted himself out of bounds (which he had to do by his shoulders which should have rendered him pinned) and they were called up.  After the 2nd period, Bridger was up 9-3 going into the 3rd period.  His opponent threw him to his back, and while Bridger was rolling through, the ref called the pin.  Very disappointing, but Bridger went on to wrestle for 5th & 6th.  He pinned his opponent to win 5th at State.  Pretty awesome if you ask this mom!
