(Updated with comment from School District)

The 2017 graduation dates have now been set for high schools in the Natrona County School District. Most of them fall in the days just before the Memorial Day weekend. Kelly Eastes with NCSD says they worked hard to stay away from the holiday itself.

"I think we've done a good job of moving it as far off of that weekend as we could and still make it work with all of the other scheduling parameters that are placed upon us," he says. "We really wanted to make sure we were not on Memorial Day itself."

Eastes says there were several factors involved with the scheduling.

"Probably the primary one is we heard a lot of information and feedback from the community when that did occur, when the scheduling had the graduation falling on those dates," Eastes says, " so we've listened to the community and tried to make those adjustments so we're not on that date any longer." The School District said in a statement that they wanted to honor the sacrifices made by servicemen and women, and moving the ceremonies off of Memorial Day was both a community and District priority. They worked collaboratively with Spectra, the new management company of the Casper Events Center, to come up with the alternate dates for the ceremonies.

The graduation ceremonies are scheduled as follows:
Natrona County High School - Thursday, May 25, 7:30 p.m., Casper Events Center
Roosevelt High School - Friday, May 26, 3:00 p.m., Casper Events Center
Kelly Walsh High School - Friday, May 26, 7:30 p.m., Casper Events Center
Midwest High School - Sunday, May 28, 2:00 p.m., Midwest High School (tentative location)
