As you enter the Oregon Trail Wyoming State Veteran's Cemetery, you could tell this day was different.
Members of the motorcycle group that calls itself the Patriot Guard Riders lined the driveway each holding an American flag. And inside the chapel, the crowd began gathering to remember not only the 9-11 attacks 15 years ago, but the men and women who worked to save those in the twin towers, and indeed, all first responders lost in the line of dury this year.
Casper Police Chief Jim Wetzel, Fire Chief Kenny King, Fire Department Chaplain Dave Mondle and former Kelly Walsh Drama Department Head Michael Stedillie led the ceremony.
After a lone bagpiper played "Amazing Grace," Stedillie talked about the men and women who, contrary to human nature, run toward danger in cities across the country.
Wetzel and King read the names of police officers and fire fighters lost this year to a tolling ceremonial bell.
After a 21 gun salute, and an emotional benediction from Chaplain Mondle, it was over.
But the sounds and feelings will stay with all who were there. a fitting tribute to those who gave all that fateful day, 15 years ago in New York City.
