It looks like Americans can now add another dubious high point to its resume. I guess we have been ranked the world's worst tourists. That's kind of a shock, really. I thought we only hated our own fellow citizens. Wait, that's just Congress.

The survey was published Friday by Living Social and Mandela Research. On one of the more ironic notes, it was a majority of Americans themselves that were polled and who are responsible for the ranking. Good stuff!

Americans, Canadians and Australians all gave U.S. tourists the worst ranking on the survey, while Irish respondents indicated their British neighbors were the worst, and the British called out the Germans for bad travel behavior, according to a Living Social news release .

Well, alrighty then! I guess with friends like these you don't really need enemies. Here I was ready to blame France again!

What else did they find:

  • 39% of traveling Americans admitted to pilfering items from hotel rooms. As you might have guessed already - towels were the big ticket item.
  • Americans took far fewer vacation days than citizens from other countries (hopefully we made up for it in towel thefts).
  • Americans have cultured themselves abroad more than anyone would really like to give us credit for.  A whopping 78% of us have been to at least one country other than our own. Take that Estonia!

Thanks to Fox News D.C. for making me feel even better about myself. And here's a big fat rude PFFFFFFFFT (raspberry) for the folks at Living Social! Stuff that in your survey! Hey, I'm proud of myself. I didn't even have to leave the country.
