When the Estes Park Police Department reported a baby elk that was abandoned and injured, Dr. Marie C. Richardson stepped in.

After fracturing his leg, the elk was likely abandoned by it's mother and left for dead. Luckily Dr. Richardson and her staff, including her son, got to the animal in time and are currently nursing him back to health. A steady dose of fluids and a splint for his leg were the first steps. Naming the elk, naturally, was the second step. After a short debate, they settled on "Elliot."

Elliot the elk is expected to remain under Dr. Richardson's care for at least another month before potentially being released back into the wild. Stay tuned for more updates!
