One very cool thing about Casper, Wyoming is the fact that we have some really fantastic museums! It was hard to pick just one, but I’d have to say one of the most fascinating museums is the Tate Geological Museum. Dad will love stepping back in time and checking out the collection of over 3000 fossil and mineral specimens. Museum staff is always on hand to answer questions, help identify items visitors bring in, and make your visit to the museum an enjoyable experience. The highlight is always checking out Dee the Mammoth…you could even make some extra brownie points by getting dad his very own “I Dig Dee” T-shirts so he can remember why you are his favorite.

The Tate Museum is located at Casper College and is free to the public, but be sure to check out their hours of operation before you hop in the car, because they change for the Summer Season!

#3 - Three Crown’s Golf Course

Three Crowns Golf Course resides on the award winning remediation project of the former Amoco Oil Refinery along the North Platte River in Casper at 1601 King Blvd.

The site, known as the Platte River Commons, includes the golf course, jogging and/or bike trail and parks on approximately 350 acres.

Three Crowns boasts a par 72, 7,065 yard Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Championship design. A 13 acre practice facility with a course condition practice green, two bunkers, short game area and 300 yard driving range provide golfers an excellent opportunity to improve their game. Whether you choose to Golf with Pops or bike around the trails, the breath taking views and the time spent with Dad will keep you on his favorite list for at the very least…weeks to come!

#2 - Rocky Mountain Gun Club

Around these parts, you certainly would have a difficult time finding a Dad that doesn't like to shot a gun! Take dad out for the day to the Rocky Mountain Gun Club! It is a private Trap Shooting Club that is open to the public. They are affiliated with ATA and NRA.

While they encourage membership, it is not required to shoot at their club. They host practice shooting, league shoots, meat shoots, registered (ATA) shoots and special events.

They are open every Sunday from noon until everyone’s had enough. They even have lighting for night shooting. Shotgun shells are available at the clubhouse.

The RMGC is located just outside of town at 6100 Cole Creek Road.

#1 - North Platte River

Fly Fishing on the North Platte River

Casper boasts some of the best trout fishing in the country along the North Platte River. There are plenty of public access areas to fish, just be sure to pick up the 2011 edition of Wyoming Fishing Rules & Regulations and check out WyomingFishing.net for more information.

Dad would also love a guided fishing trip so he can be sure to experience the North Platte to it’s fullest potential. There are too many guides in the area to list them all, but here are a few that you can start with: Crazy Rainbow, The Reef Fly Shop and Cowboy Drifters. Whatever you decide, you’ll be certain to build some life long memories…which reminds me of Trace Adkins latest hit and a really cute video I came across on youtube…so I thought I’d share it with you! Enjoy!
