BLM Sells Permits For Cutting Firewood On Muddy Mountain

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management Casper Field Office is issuing permits for gathering firewood, posts and poles on Muddy Mountain beginning today, according to a news release from the agency.

The office will issue permits until Oct. 23, or until available wood is depleted in the cutting areas.

The BLM limits permits to three cords per person and will be issued on a first-come first-served basis.

Permits are $15 per cord and $1.50 per post or pole. The BLM also charges an additional $1.50 road maintenance fee per permit.

To buy a permit, individuals must show up in person at the Casper Field Office, 2987 Prospector Drive, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Actual cutting will end Sunday, Oct. 23, when all products must be removed. The areas will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day.

All available areas and individual trees will be designated and marked by BLM prior to the sale.

Firewood can be cut in these areas, and only those trees marked are available for firewood use.
