CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Supreme Court has denied an appeal from a man sentenced to 30 to 50 years in prison for fatally shooting a man outside a strip club near Casper.

The high court's decision Tuesday rejects claims brought by John Knospler Jr. that the Natrona County District Court made errors in its rulings and in its writing of jury instructions.

Knospler was convicted in December 2014 of second-degree murder in the 2013 death of 24-year-old James Baldwin.

Authorities say witnesses told them Baldwin was shot as he was trying to get into a car that Knospler was sitting in.

Knospler maintained he acted in self-defense when he killed Baldwin.

The state Supreme Court's ruling upholds a district judge's decision denying Knospler's request for a new trial.
