A convicted sex offender and a woman he lives with are accused of sexually abusing a child repeatedly over the course of 15 months.

Lenard William Smiley, 45, and Sonya Smiley, 50, each made their initial appearance Monday in Natrona County Circuit Court.

Lenard Smiley faces five felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.

He could spend up to 100 years in prison and pay $50,000 in fines if convicted on all counts.

Sonya Smiley is charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree and one count of accessory before the fact to sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.

She could spend up to 65 years in prison and have to pay $40,000 in fines.

The state alleged in court Monday that Lenard Smiley abused the victim several times over a 15-month period.

Lenard Smiley is being held on $500,000 cash or surety bond, while Sonya Smiley's bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety.

They were each ordered to have no contact with each other, as they are co-defendants.
