Casper Man Admits Aggravated Assault, Could Avoid Prison Time

A Casper man accused of threatening his sister's partner with a gun pleaded guilty to a felony charge Tuesday morning in Natrona County District Court.

Colton Eric Wagner, who was 21 years old at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.

Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, Wagner will likely see no prison time.

Before Natrona County District Judge Thomas Sullins on Tuesday, Assistant District Attorney Trevor Schenk said the state had agreed to recommend a suspended prison term of three to five years.

At sentencing, Schenk will also recommend Wagner be ordered to complete the Casper Re-Entry Center's felony program and be placed on a term of supervised probation.

The state further agreed to dismiss three other charges initially filed against Wagner.

Court documents say Wagner was arrested in July after showing up at a house with a .40-caliber Glock 27, barging into a bedroom and pointing the handgun at his sister's partner.

Witnesses reportedly told police that Wagner had been threatening that person for some time leading up to his arrest. He reportedly had become increasingly unstable after learning of the relationship.

Wagner remains free on bond pending sentencing.
