A Casper man who allegedly had methamphetamine in the presence of his son heard that and other charges against him during his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court on Monday.

William Cunningham, 37, faces one felony count of child endangerment with methamphetamine; and misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and domestic battery.

If convicted of the the child endangerment charge, he faces up to five years of imprisonment. Potential incarceration for the misdemeanors would be up to two years of jail.

Cunningham told Circuit Court Judge Brian Christensen that this was the first time he had ever been in trouble with the law.

Christensen set his bond at $7,500 cash or surety, and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victims. A preliminary hearing will be held in a few weeks to determine whether his case will be bound over to district court for trial.

The case began about 9:30 p.m. Thursday when Casper Police officers responded to a call about a family fight on Robin Street, according to a police affidavit filed with Circuit Court.

"Officers arrived to a female hysterically screaming that 'he has my baby!' and 'he is going to kill my baby!," according to the affidavit.

They also spoke to a neighbor who said the woman screamed that her husband was killing her and beat her up in the shower.

The wife told police Cunningham had assaulted her when she was in the shower and took their child. She locked herself in her bedroom for protection and then left.

An officer observed the wife had involuntary muscle tremors, rushed speech, and trouble staying focused. She was taken to the Wyoming Medical Center for further evaluation.

Police located Cunningham's vehicle near his parents' residence in Paradise Valley, and made contact with him and the boy. An officer observed he had "eye tremors, dilated pupils, a flushed face and was sweating profusely."

The boy told police his parents were yelling at each other. His mother went to the bathroom, his dad held a knife held behind his back and kicked his mother into the bathtub. He and his father ran from the house to the vehicle and drove around.

They drove back to the house. The boy thought his father ran over his mother, and then they drove to Paradise Valley. The boy was taken into protective custody and interviewed at the Children's Advocacy Project, where he said, "his parents began acting crazy seeing aliens and monsters."

During a second interview, the wife said she and Cunningham ingested methamphetamine in the morning and he had more after lunch. She was outside when Cunningham almost hit her with the vehicle but she was able to jump out of the way.

Cunningham said in an interview he didn't remember anything before police contacted him, and that he had smoked methamphetamine earlier that day.
