Summer's just around the corner, and plans have begun for the 2024 Spuds season. The boys of summer are coming back, and you can be part of the Casper Spuds family this season.

If you're unfamiliar with the team, the Casper Spuds are part of a summer collegiate wooden-bat league that resembles minor-league baseball. The players are college-level athletes who want to keep their baseball skills sharp after their college season ends. So they come to cities like Casper for the over 50-game season.

Last season, the Spuds played their inaugural season at Mike Lansing Field, and they're coming back for season two beginning May 23rd. Since these kids are college-aged, some need a place to stay to help them financially.

This is where the Spuds need your help.

The team is accepting applications for host families for players and interns joining the team. The role of host families is vital to the team's success because you can give that player a place to call home for a few months. By becoming a host family, you add another family member for the summer and likely a new friend for years.

If you're interested, filling out the application on the Casper Spuds Website is easy, but becoming a host family is a summer-long commitment and needs to be taken seriously.

Expectations of the Host Family:

  • Provide the player/intern with a clean, safe home (bedroom, bed, bathroom, laundry access, parking space if needed)
  • Have food available for player
  • Provide player/intern with clear household rules and expectations
  • Communicate with player/intern and team staff if issues arise

Expectations of the Player(s)/Intern:

  • Be respectful and appreciative to their hosts
  • Keep their room and personal space in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Provide their own health and personal care items
  • Minimize noise level of activities, including comings and goings, so as not to disturb others in the house
  • Pay for their expenses outside the home (gas money, restaurant meals, shopping other than groceries)

Expectations of the Spuds Baseball organization:

  • Maintain prompt and open communication regarding any questions or concerns that may arise or any change in player placements
  • Provide host families with season tickets, discounted merchandise, and other included perks

The season will be here before you know it, and tickets will be going on sale soon. If you have any questions, contact Kristi Hack or check out the information on the Spuds website.
