It's U.S. Open Golf week. Many people know the Cheyenne Country Club Head Pro played in that major championship three different years! His name is Ken Krieger.

Mister Krieger qualified in 1981, 1989 and 2000. Who cares if he got to watch Tiger Woods run circles around that Pebble Beach field in the 2000 Open. Who cares if he ever even made a cut. You have to be really good just to qualify for our national championship.

Krieger's great high school golf - and a high GPA - got him a full golf scholarship to Georgia Southern University. There he was good enough for not only all conference honors, but also in his senior year, the College All American Golf Team.

Oh by the way, Ken made it into the 1993 PGA Championship, so make that four of golf's highest majors he played.

For 30 years, Ken has been the Head Golf Professional at Cheyenne Country Club. He is now a member of the Wyoming Golf Association's Hall of Fame. A friend of Ken's says that Krieger deserves to be in the Hall of Fame just for being a great teacher, junior golf leader, mentor and friend to many people in Cheyenne for three decades. In other words, he meant Ken deserved it even if he wasn't so darn good at the game, himself.
