A 33-year-old Cheyenne man could face up to 16-and-a-half years after police say he beat up his girlfriend.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says Alec Praytor was arrested on Sept. 24 after police responding to a possible domestic violence in progress chased him down in the 600 block of E. 19th Street.

"The incident began at the Home Depot," said Malatesta. "Apparently there was an argument between him and his girlfriend and he began to punch her. Somebody who was in the area saw this going on, tried to intervene and was chased off by Praytor."

"Praytor and his girlfriend then left in their vehicle and went to the Kum & Go at 215 E. Lincolnway where he backed into a post and there was another incident of domestic violence," he added.

Malatesta says police spotted Praytor's vehicle near E. 17th Street and House Avenue and were able to detain him after a short pursuit.

"They determined that he had a suspended license and was impaired by alcohol," said Malatesta.

Praytor was charged with aggravated assault and battery-serious bodily injury, strangulation of a household member-throat or neck, interference with a peace officer-resist and domestic battery-first offense.

Praytor is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $10,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m.
