Community Walks Planned Along the Platte River Trails
Several area organizations are collaborating again this year to offer community “walks” along the Platte River Trails. Weekly events are advertised as walks, but participants may join in who are running, riding bicycles, roller-blading or moving in some other manner under their own power. A new addition to this year’s Pathway walks is the availability of Strider bikes specifically for children aged 2-5 years. There are five bikes for kids under 60 pounds and 2 bikes for bigger kids up to 120 pounds. The bikes will be at the starting point each week and will be lent out on a first-come, first served basis.
The first of seven scheduled community excursions along the Platte River Trails will be held on Monday, June 16, beginning at Paradise Valley Park at 6:00 p.m. and ending at Morad Park. Week 1 will be hosted by the Wyoming Medical Center. The event is free; refreshments and Casper Area Transportation Coalition (CATC) shuttle service to or from parking areas will be provided.
Walks along the Platte River Trails will be held each Monday evening through the end of July. Each walk is approximately 2 miles long. Each week, the event will have a different starting point so that participants will have traveled the entire distance of the Platte River Trails and the Casper Rails to Trails by the end of the program through weekly participation.
