Law enforcement officers in Converse County arrested a motorist who was reported as suicidal and homicidal on Sunday evening, according to a news release from the Converse County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy responded to the scene of the driver and his vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 25 near mile marker 150 between Douglas and Glenrock at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The deputy saw erratic and unsafe driving, and attempted to stop the driver near mile marker 140 in Douglas. The driver didn't stop, exited the highway and drove to Cold Springs Road.

The driver traveled west on Cold Springs Road to Wyoming Highway 96 at speeds up to 70 mph. When he reached the mile marker 146 interchange, he entered I-25 and drove north at speeds up to 85 mph.

Spike strips were deployed and deflated the vehicle's four tires east of Glenrock.

The driver pulled the vehicle to the left, stopped and got out.

He failed to comply with repeated orders from the deputy, who used a Taser to "gain his compliance," according to the news release.

The driver was taken into custody, and taken to the Memorial Hospital to Converse County where he was treated and released.

He was then booked into the Converse County Jail on charges of eluding, driving under the influence, and having an open alcoholic container in a moving vehicle.

The news release did not identify the driver's name.
