Every once in a while it happens. And I'm grateful that it does - I get excited about an upcoming movie. I tend to follow reviews. I watch trailers. I'm also tired of the countless remakes of classic films and television shows, with a few exceptions. Needless to say I seldom get worked up. But you can bring on The Hunger Games!

I can't believe I'm just learning about this phenomenon. It sneaked up on me just like that Twilight fluff that so far I have taken a pass on. Vampires only excite me for so long. While we're at it, I'm a little over the zombie thing, too. This is different though. I guess the books (yes, plural), penned by Suzanne Collins, while geared for teens, are very vivid and impressive on any level. She also wrote the screenplay.

I haven't started reading yet, sadly. But thanks to a fundraiser my niece had to do for school, I'm getting a constant supply of Entertainment Weekly magazines. Yep, there ya go. That's my secret, and I'm not ashamed. All this wonderful press has been getting me more than excited for my introduction to Katniss, Gale, Peeta, Caesar, Seneca, and the rest of these wonderful post-apocalyptic characters. The cast includes some of my favorites like Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, and Donald Sutherland. Did I mention this girl is fighting to the death, runs a lot, and has deadly precision with a bow and arrow. Definitely my kind of  "chick" flick.

The Hunger Games is expected to earn triple-digit millions in its first weekend alone, and no doubt will spawn its own set of sequels. Hopefully I'll look forward to them as much as I'm looking forward to this one. It opens at Studio City at midnight on the 23rd. The America Theatre, closed while they install a new projecting system, also gets the privilege of showing the film that millions are anticipating. It opens this Friday.

Bring it on, and Happy Hunger Games!
