Why didn’t ‘The Devil Wear Prada’ get a sequel? Even ‘Garfield’ got ‘A Tale of Two Kitties.’ And ‘Prada’ was a flat-out hit. It earned $326M worldwide (on a reported $35M budget). It nabbed Meryl Streep yet another Oscar nomination. And it elevated the already rising stars of both Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt. All of these factors should have led to a sequel. Now, 6 years later, it just might.

‘Prada’ author Lauren Weisberger reportedly is working on a new story titled ‘Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns,’ which would continue the narrative of ice-hearted fashion mag editor Miranda Priestly (Streep) and her loyal assistant (Hathaway). EW.com, which has the report, says Simon & Schuster will publish the new book in April 2013. Can a movie adaptation be far behind?

According to EW, here’s the new book’s plot:

Revenge Wears Prada picks up eight years after Andy (Hathaway’s character) parted ways with Miranda on bad terms. Andy is now editing The Plunge, the hottest bridal magazine around, alongside Emily (Blunt’s character), her one-time Runway nemesis turned current BFF. While Andy is planning her own wedding to Max, a handsome media scion, she remains haunted by her impeccably heeled former boss — and the magazine world being as small as it is, it’s only a matter of time before she hears the dreaded syllables “Ahn-dre-ah!” again.

We’re a long way off from seeing a greenlight on a ‘Prada’ movie sequel. But just knowing that Weisberger is hard at work on another chapter in this amusing world gives us hope that Hathaway, Streep, Blunt and, of course, Stanley Tucci would want to slip on the ‘Prada’ for another hellish comedy. Stay tuned.
