Natrona County Emergency Management will conduct another test of the public warning system sirens at 2 p.m. today, according to a news release.

The public warning system siren test is designed to be silent and should not activate the speakers if the equipment is functioning properly.

During the weekly test Monday morning, the Emergency Management Department experienced a malfunction that activated the speakers on the sirens.

The department intended to test the system Monday afternoon, but didn't.

Technicians have been conducting diagnostic tests with the actual siren offline to reduce the inconvenience to the community in case of a malfunction.

The test at 2 p.m. today will use the same procedure and equipment as the standard weekly morning test conducted every week. This one should be silent.

The Emergency Management Department thanks the public for its patience during the testing.
