The Fort Caspar Museum Association announces its winter Lunch & Learn program on Saturday, January 31, 2015, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Glenda Bell will present “Maude and the Fraud: The Daughters of Calamity Jane.” Ms. Bell’s highly entertaining program on Calamity Jane was such a huge hit last year that we are bringing her back to tell us more about this fascinating frontier woman. The presentation is free with the optional lunch, or free with paid museum admission. (Reservations are required for lunch and recommended for the lecture as seating is limited.)

In 1941, a woman announced that she was the daughter of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. She seemed to know a great deal about Calamity, however several pieces of her “evidence” did not add up. Besides, Hickok and Calamity only knew each other two months, so it was possible...but not probable. Maude Weir declared the woman a “dirty liar”—and she was in a position to know. Find out why.

Glenda Bell has been researching Calamity Jane since 1987, and she returns to Casper to share what she has uncovered regarding yet another puzzle surrounding the complex life of Martha Jane Canary, commonly known as Calamity Jane.

The optional lunch will begin at noon. We are offering a buffet-style meal of fried chicken, sides, desserts, and beverages with an RSVP by January 28th. The cost for lunch is $5.00 for Museum Members and $8.00 for non-members; reserve your space in advance, but please plan to pay at the door. The presentation begins at 1:00 pm. Those who choose not to participate in lunch may attend the lecture for free after paying museum admission ($1.50 for adults; $1 for youth ages 13 to 18 years; and children 12 and under are free). Again, please call the Museum by Wednesday, January 28th, to reserve a spot at the lunch and/or the lecture: 235-8462.
