Gordon Lightfoot was a Canadian Folk artist whose memorable, easy-listening songs of the '60s and '70s, easily blended right in with a Country audience.

Known as the "Canadian Troubador," Gordon would have several chart-toppers in the States, such as Carefree Highway, If You Could Read My Mind, and what would become an anthem to the memories of the lives lost in a 1975 Great Lakes Freighter sinking, The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald.

Sundown was released in 1974 on Gordon's, Too Late For Prayin' LP.

Notably, he wrote it for his girlfriend, Cathy Smith, who would become famous in her own right for being with John Belushi at the time that he died.
