Selecting the perfect Christmas tree is something that many Wyomingites take very seriously. When you go to a Christmas tree lot, it makes it convenient and quicker for you.

Have you ever thought of going out and cutting your own tree, but weren't really sure where you could do that? Good news, I'm going to give you some pointers that I've learned from the National Forest Service.

Wyoming is fortunate to have multiple National Forests within the state lines and each of the forests gives you an opportunity to cut your very own Christmas tree.

There are a few things that you have to be aware of before you just cut down any tree in the forest.

• Knowing the proper trees, you can cut.
• Which areas are tree cutting areas?
• What height does your tree need to be?
• Don't cut the tree too early, even well-watered trees will dry out.
• How big is the space you have allotted for the tree in your house?
• Use the proper tools and have the correct gear.
• Read and follow signs
• Stump height
• Make sure you know the weather of the area you're going to get your tree and have everything you need to be prepared for the weather

In Wyoming, you can cut your own Christmas tree in the 4 National Forests, with a permit. The prices for the permit aren't universal, there are different prices depending on the forest. You can figure paying between $8-$15.
