We all hate to admit when we're wrong.  But how do you go about giving the perfect apology when you've really done something wrong?

I hate having to give someone an apology, mostly because it requires admitting I was wrong or did something that I'm not very proud of and mainly because I'm rarely - if ever - wrong.  And if you believe that, I've got some lava front property in Hawaii I would like to talk to you about.

For the rest of us, with lives based in reality, we do make mistakes and yes we do try to avoid making them!  But when we make a mistake, what's the best way to say you're sorry?

According to researchers at Ohio State University there are 6 steps to making the perfect apology.

Genuinely saying - I'm Sorry.

Explaining and acknowledging what went wrong.

Admitting fault and taking blame

Repenting for your actions

Offering solutions for the problem you caused

and Finally - ask for forgiveness.

The researchers also found that you don't have to use all of these all the time, in fact just admitting your fault and offering a way to fix the mistake is the best way to make a quick apology.

But no matter how you go about extending an apology, always give that apology in person!
