The Lusk Police Department soon may learn the identity of human remains found Sunday night, Chief John Anderson said Tuesday.

"I'm hoping that we'll have some type of results today," Anderson said.

"The autopsy is going to be performed some time this morning, and then they'll contact us," he said. The autopsy is being performed in Colorado.

The case began about 11 p.m. Sunday, officers received a call about what appeared to be a light from a hill, Anderson said.

"They went to investigate it, they didn't find a light, however, there were another subject who was walking around the area," he said. "He said he found what appeared to be remains on the hill top."

Because the investigation is continuing, Anderson declined to comment whether other items were found near the remains, and whether this case is being investigated as a homicide. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is working with the police department, according to the Associated Press.

Likewise, Anderson declined to comment on whether the remains might be those of Lusk resident Kenneth Van Buskirk, who was reported missing a year-and-a-half ago.

According to the National Missing Person Directory, Van Buskirk was last seen at his home on July, 29, 2014. He was 54 at the time.
