Hunter Hayes may be a country music newcomer, but the emerging superstar was definitely desired — err, ‘wanted’ — by the crowd during his performance on tonight’s ‘CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock’ special, performing ‘Wanted’ with just a piano and a sea of adoring fans.

“This is the first year to be really involved in stuff,” Hayes told show host Luke Bryan just before taking the stage. Bryan took a minute to investigate Hayes’ claim that he can play more than 30 different instruments — a challenge the young singer passed with flying colors.

‘Wanted’ is currently sitting at No. 1 on the country charts, the first appearance at the top for Hayes. Fans impressed with the singer’s prime time performance can purchase his self-titled debut record, which features ‘Wanted’ and his Top 15 single ‘Storm Warning.’ The current CMA New Artist of the Year nominee is currently on the road as the opening entertainment for Carrie Underwood‘s Blown Away Tour.
