As we enter into a new year, millions of people will be making resolutions to better themselves or make a fresh start.  Here are a few tips to help you on your way to keeping your 2014 new year's resolutions.

We've all made New Year's Resolutions and then broken them.  But this is the year we make them and stick to them, right?

The biggest key to sticking to any resolution is having support as well as a plan, regardless if your goal is to lose weight, get in to better shape or even improve your job status.  Check out these tips and hopefully they will help you keep on track to keeping your promise to yourself.

First off, be realistic!  Be sure your goal is an attainable one.  If you're honest with yourself and set goals that favor your success, you'll find it easier to get there.

Plan ahead!  Hopefully you didn't wait until the last minute to make up your mind as to your goals for 2014.  The more planning and preparation you've put into your goals, the better your chances of reaching them.

Talk about it!  Don't keep your resolutions a secret.  The more friends and family you share your goals with, the more support you will receive in reaching them.

Track your progress!  Keep track of your small successes.  Set smaller goals as stepping stones and keep them simple.  The more small steps you can successfully take, the more motivation you'll have to keep you focused on reaching the ultimate goal.

Don't get down if you slip up!  Obsessing over the occasional step backward.  Even if you do take a step backwards, stay positive and take it one day at a time.

Stick to it and keep trying!  Experts say that it takes about 21 days to make a new activity a habit and up to 6 months of repetition to make it a part of your way of life.  If you totally run out of steam and fall down on your effort, don't give up!  Simply start over again. Recommit yourself to your goals and take things day by day.  Before you know it, you'll be back on track!
