Kellie Pickler Set to Give Grand Ole Opry Pink Makeover for Breast Cancer Awareness
Kellie Pickler has upped her support for breast cancer awareness by signing on for the ‘Opry Goes Pink’ celebration, which will take place on Oct. 30 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. The annual event recognizes cancer survivors and the ongoing effort to find a cure to the life-threatening disease through the gracious help of country music artists.
“It’s just hair,” said Pickler during a recent visit to ‘The Ellen Degeneres Show.’ The ‘Tough’ singer’s appearance on the popular daytime talk show was her first since shaving her head in solidarity of her best friend’s cancer diagnosis.
“We made a pact that we’d shave our heads together,” said the radiant singer. “I think it’s important to have a cancer buddy.”
Early detection is the most effective way of combating the disease — an idea that Pickler hopes all young women will realize through her actions. “Cancer does not discriminate,” shares the singer, speaking directly about her friend’s diagnosis at just 36 years old.
Also appearing on the ‘Opry Goes Pink’ bill are country newcomers Jana Kramer and the FARM, with more special guests to be announced in the coming weeks. Pickler will flip the switch on the Opry’s iconic barn backdrop, turning the stage pink for the evening,
