Lee Brice Reveals ‘I Don’t Dance’ Album Details
Lee Brice's upcoming album 'I Don't Dance' is set to drop on September 9 and the title is the truth. The singer really does hate dancing but there's one person who he willingly dances with, which is how he came up with the album's first single and title track.
"I'm a terrible dancer," Brice admits to Rolling Stone Country. "I remember a fifth grade dance where they were picking out kids to come dance on stage. This was when MC Hammer was popular, and I thought, 'I can do that.' So I got up there and did the MC Hammer, and I looked so stupid!"
Luckily, his wife is a talented dancer -- and she holds the ability to convince the singer to dance with her. "Sara is an amazing dancer. It's the sexiest thing I've ever seen. And when she says, 'Baby, let's dance,' it's so intimidating. But just for her, I'll do it." That inspired the song and the album title.
He also says that he won't "dance in the box of Nashville," which also gave him a little inspiration for the album considering this album is a little out of the ordinary for him.
Brice changed his sound up a little for this record -- adding other genres into the mix and adding what he considers some more "classic" sounds to his music. "One thing I tried to do on this record is a lot of classic sounds, like on Bruno Mars' record, but with a lot of hip sounds that he just created in his mind, or whatever it may have been. I love putting classic steel guitar with a classic banjo — all those sounds meshed with new sounds I created in my head."
Brice had a little help mixing those sounds. He joined Jerrod Niemann and Jon Stone to create 'Closer,' a song that incorporates a lot of blues into his country sound. That sexy song will help create an album that he's hoping will flow.
