#3 - Man Swallowed by Hippo... Survives!

A Florida man was taken into custody by cops after playing possum – by leaving a dead one on the doorstep of his ex-girlfriend.

Donald Scott Gustafson was charged with aggravated stalking after his ex called police to complain that he'd dumped the dead critter at her front door – just the most recent "message" he'd tried to send her over the past several months. Gustafson also jammed her car locks with toothpicks and left an unloaded gun on her couch.

He copped to being the guilty party in a note that he left on the woman's windshield, which gave her all the evidence they needed to arrest him. As he was being hauled away, Gustafson said that his admission of guilt was the same thing as an apology, so he shouldn't be charged. (Daytona Beach News-Journal)

A Texas woman is facing felony charges after seeking out help when her teenage son was shot by a friend – by logging on to Web MD for tips instead of taking the boy to a hospital.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was at home with the 14-year-old and his pal when the other kid started playing with a gun, which eventually went off and struck the teen in the thigh. He remained on the floor for several minutes until rising and heading over to the computer with his mom, who thought she could solve the problem online – only to give in and head to the emergency room seven hours later.

The teen remains hospitalized in stable condition. Authorities are considering charging the teen’s mother with injury to a child by omission. (KHOU)

You may find this story hard to swallow – but a man is telling the tale of how he was swallowed by a hippo ... and survived.

17 years ago, travel guide Paul Templer was leading a group of clients in kayaks near Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls when they encountered a rogue hippo, which flipped a colleague’s boat.

Just before Paul reached the boat to save his fellow guide, he was engulfed in darkness ... in a place he says was slimy and smelled of rotten eggs. Having realized he had been swallowed by the hippo, Paul somehow managed to escape during the animal's next breath. But the hippo wasn’t going to let him get away without a fight, leaving Paul with almost 40 puncture wounds before the animal submerged again.

Doctors initially believed that both Paul’s arms and part of his injured leg would have to be amputated. But in the end, he lost only his left arm. Paul still works as a travel guide today. His essay in the U.K.’s The Guardian has since gone viral. (People)
