A Mills man was sentenced in federal court to prison for a firearms offense, and will serve that term on top of a state district court sentence for methamphetamine distribution.

U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl sentenced Quentin Oler to two years, nine months of imprisonment for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the minutes of the hearing on Wednesday.

That will be served consecutively to the five- to 10-year sentence he received in Natrona County District Court in September for his conviction on one count of conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine.

Skavdahl also ordered Oler to undergo a 500-hour residential drug treatment course while in prison, and to serve a three-year term of supervised probation after his release.

Older has a prior firearms convictions in federal court. In 2007, he was sentenced to four years, three months of imprisonment for unlawful transport of firearms.

The federal firearms case arose from his involvement in a multi-state drug trafficking ring supplied by a foreign drug cartel. Four of the higher-ups in that meth ring were prosecuted federally; Oler was charged in Natrona County District Court and pleaded guilty in March 2017 as part of a deal with prosecutors.

However, Oler violated the terms of his release on bond by failing to appear for a hearing. A warrant was issued for his arrest. In August, a Natrona County Sheriff's officer approached him at a residence where he had a motorcycle, Oler took off, ran over the officer's foot and burned a hole through his shoe.

For several days, the Sheriff's Office and the Casper Police Department looked for him. Officers received a report that Oler wanted to "shoot it out" with law enforcement.

On Aug. 11, authorities found him driving a stolen pickup near the Three Crowns Golf Course. The truck spun out of control into Garden Creek, where Oler tried to hide.

Law enforcement surrounded him and he was caught.
