A Natrona County High School teacher is in the running for a big award. Band/music teacher Shawn Weis has been named as quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award™.  According to the Natrona County School District, a total of 197 music teachers from 187 cities across 45 states plus Washington, D.C. made the quarterfinals, out of more than 2,300 nominations submitted from around the country. Weis is the only teacher from Wyoming chosen for the distinction.

The Music Educator Award™ is presented by the Recording Academy® and the GRAMMY Museum®. It was was established to recognize current educators (kindergarten through college, from both public and private schools) who have "made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools." Semifinalists will be announced in September, and the winner will be recognized during GRAMMY® Week 2018.
