North of Newcastle the Oil Creek Fire has burned over 58,000 acres with about 40 percent containment. Those numbers were reported late Wednesday.

Incident Information Officer, Mary Bean says area evacuations have been lowered to level one and so far only one structure, a barn, has been destroyed. She says neighbors have really pitched in to help neighbors “move livestock, lots of cattle and horses. People have come in and offered their pastures, trailers whatever it means to help pull their belongings and their livelihood together.”

She says Good progress was made on the western and eastern flanks of the fire line.
