Country stars are joining the nation in sending prayers to the victims of the shootings and attacks in Paris. At least 129 have been killed, most in a hostage situation in the French capitol Friday night (Nov. 13).

At 6PM ET, the Associated Press reported that the French president will declare a state of emergency and close the borders. Earlier, shots were fired at restaurants and cafes throughout the city, and explosions were heard elsewhere, including near a soccer match between France and Germany. That match has since ended, according to the BBC.

Fans inside a music venue called the Bataclan were held hostage, according to several media outlets, including Ultimate Classic Rock. Six to eight attackers took hostages, killing dozens. The band Eagles of Death Metal were performing at the time.

In addition to the dead, more than 300 were injured, CNN reports. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks in a statement online, saying eight militants armed with explosive belts and machine guns attacked areas in Paris that were selected precisely and coordinated in advance.

“So heartbroken over Paris,” writes Brad Paisley. He’s one of many stars who’ve turned to social media to express sorrow and support. Clint Black, Chris Young and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott are a few others shaken by the news.
