A Wyoming Park Ranger is recovering from injuries he suffered in a shootout that left another man dead.

Domenic Bravo is administrator for state parks, historic sites and trails.

Bravo says Ranger Phil Martindale was shot in the chest on Friday (September 9th) near Glendo State Park in southeast Wyoming.

The shootout occurred after Martindale and officers with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office stopped a motorist on the east side of the reservoir.

County officials say the motorist fled the scene and was killed in a shootout with officers at a nearby residence.

Bravo says Martindale has been transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular room at the Wyoming Medical Center and was speaking on Monday.

Officials haven’t released the name of the man killed in the shootout.
