A man was hospitalized Tuesday after allegedly assaulting two people, barricading himself inside a Lyman home and reportedly shooting himself before police could get to him.

The man's name has not been released and his condition as of Wednesday night is unknown.

According to a press release from the Town of Lyman, police were called Tuesday about an alleged assault at the Lyman cemetery.

The caller reportedly said a man had assaulted two women, brandished a gun and "made statements indicating that he may possibly harm himself or others," the release reads.

An officer was dispatched to the area, but the suspect had taken off.

It didn't take police long to find the man's vehicle at a home on West Walnut Street. Lyman Police Chief Tom Clark tried to speak with the suspect, who apparently had barricaded himself inside the home.

Despite several attempts, Clark was unsuccessful in contacting the suspect.

Because of what the suspect had reportedly said earlier about harming himself or others, officers secured the perimeter and a Bridger Valley ambulance was put on standby.

"The concern for the suspect's welfare became foremost in the officers' actions," the news release says. "With no communications between officers and the suspect, it was unknown as to his physical condition or emotional state."

Officers wearing tactical gear went into the home and found the suspect with what was evidently a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Medical personnel quickly administered lifesaving treatment and he was transported to the University of Utah Trauma Unit," the release says.

No one else was injured.

Clark, in the release, thanked all first responders involved in the incident for their professionalism, including members of the Lyman Police Department, Uinta County Sheriff's Office, Mountain View Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol and fire-EMS personnel.

We will update this story as we learn more.
