We're kind of sad to relay the news that Knute the Polar Bear has passed away.  If you'll remember, the famous polar bear cub was born in the Berlin Zoo in Germany 4 years ago.  He grabbed the spotlight soon after he was rejected by his mother and had to be raised by his handlers. Knute was the first polar bear born at the zoo in thirty years and the only one to be raised by humans.

He was found unresponsive in his enclosure.  An autopsy is being carried out to determine cause of death.

Knute became quite famous, bringing 3.2 million visitors to the zoo to catch a glimpse of him.  He had been incorporated, spawned fan clubs and world-wide recognition and in 2007 he even appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.
