CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Gov. Matt Mead and legislative leaders have suspended design work for a $300 million renovation of the state Capitol and a state office building next door.

Thursday's unanimous decision by the Capitol Building Restoration Oversight Group comes as proposed work to the Herschler Building remains over budget.

Committee members also expressed concern about how a preliminary design would eliminate 15,000 square feet of space in the Herschler Building. That's on top of space lost in the Capitol as part of that building's renovation.

The committee asked project manager MOCA Systems to find ways to add office space while keeping the project under budget.

Meanwhile, the committee suspended design work by HDR Architecture until its next meeting Nov. 2. HDR officials didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
