Country music artist Rodney Atkins has filed for divorce from Tammy Jo Atkins after claiming that his wife made false domestic violence charges against him.

People magazine online is reporting that Rodney has filed for divorce today following his arrest and release from jail on charges of domestic abuse.  The country singer was released from jail on $2500 bail and is denying the charges made by his wife, Tammy Jo Atkins.

"This was an unfortunate verbal dispute between Mr. and Mrs. Atkins within hearing range of their child, and when Mr. Atkins realized their child was in hearing range of the argument, his first priority became getting out of the earshot of the child," his attorney, Rose Palermo, tells PEOPLE in a written statement. - via People.com

This is Rodney's second marriage and the couple do have one child together, Elijah, age 10.
