This is a sad story.  It's also one of those stories that draws on enough emotions that it might possibly inspire.

Wes Leonard, 16, is now with us only in spirit.  Up until late Thursday night he was extremely active as the star player of the Fennville High Blackhawks.  According to the Macomb Daily, the Michigan youth had just sunk the final layup and sealed the victory in an overtime win over rival Bridgman High.  This basket would cap the team's perfect season.

Next was the unforeseeable.  As congratulatory fans rushed the court, Wes would fall to the gym floor.  Paramedics would perform CPR.  Every effort would be utilized to save the young man's life, but he would later be pronounced dead at the hospital.

No word on an exact cause of death, but cardiac arrest is suspected.  An autopsy is planned. ***Update***Wes did go into cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart.

This season, Wes had passed the 1,000 point mark for his high school career.  He was also the quarterback for the "championship Blackhawk football team."

We pay our respects to Wes's family and his memory.  R.I.P.  You can read the full story, here.
