Big Kenny's big smile is well deserved -- the Big and Rich hitmaker just found out he will be the second-ever U.S. recipient of the African Children’s Choir Malaika award, which will be handed to him during a big event in New York City.
Big & Rich and Alabama frontman Randy Owen’s rendition of ‘America the Beautiful’ may not have been a vocal masterpiece, but the country crooners were able to get Mitt Romney supporters on their feet this week. Joined by classic rock singer Meat Loaf, the group’s collective performance of the patriotic tune followed a political support rally for the Presidential Republican candidate at an Ohio high school on Thursday.
Big and Rich are back at country radio with a beautiful new song, ‘That’s Why I Pray,’ with powerful lyrics. Some of Nashville’s finest writers are responsible for penning the tune — Sarah Buxton, Danelle Leverett and Blair Daly.
With the exception of their submission to the ‘Footloose’ soundtrack, Big and Rich have just released their first new single since 2007. Both members of the duo have found some success as solo artists, but ‘That’s Why I Pray’ serves as a reminder of how much Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich need each other.
John Rich is set to headline the St. Jude Presents John Rich & Friends concert, which will serve as the first-ever concert event for the 2012 FedEx St. Jude Classic. Scheduled for June 5 at the Cannon Center in Memphis, Tenn., the star-studded concert performers also includes Rich’s superstar duo gig Big & Rich, country superstars Kellie Pickler and Darius Rucker and comedian Jeff Foxworthy.
