The Legacy Bead Program helps children and their families cope with life-threatening illnesses. At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, patients use beads to mark treatment milestones, from losing their hair to completing chemotherapy.

Jinghui Zhang, Ph.D., an expert in computational biology at St. Jude, talks about the dramatically better computer tool she developed for finding the genetic missteps that fuel cancer. This  research is part of the Pediatric Cancer Genome Project.

Fifty years ago, Danny Thomas founded the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the hopes of curing children's cancer and other deadly diseases. Danny wanted to open a hospital where children would be cared for regardless of race, religion or creed.  A hospital where families would never receive a bill for their child's treatment.
