Vince Gill Celebrates 20 Years in the Grand Ole Opry

His youthful tenor never seems to age, so it’s hard to believe Vince Gill has been making music for decades. In fact, he released the first of his 12 solo albums, ‘Turn Me Loose,’ way back in 1984.

Since then, Gill has charted more than 40 singles, sold more than 22 million records and won 20 Grammys. At this point, he’s running out of milestones — but there was still one left for him to celebrate on Saturday, when he marked 20 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Longtime Opry Member Billy Grammer Passes Away at 85

Billy Grammer, the singer and guitarist best known for his million-selling 1959 hit ‘Gotta Travel On,’ passed away Wednesday after a long illness. He was 85.

A World War Two Army veteran, Grammer broke into country music only after losing his job as a toolmaker after the war. He scored big with his debut single, ‘Gotta Travel On,’ the first of four top 40 hits in a recording career that continued for a decade.

The Oak Ridge Boys Are the Grand Ole Opry’s Newest Inductees

Since they started making music together way back in 1947, the Oak Ridge Boys have topped the country charts more than 15 times, won four CMAs and a Grammy, and sold millions of records — but one honor has eluded them.

Strait Legend

Okay, it's time to get serious.  As much as it pains me to call this man a "Legend;" (I can't believe we're both that old!)  if anyone qualifies for the honor, it's George Strait.

George Harvey Strait, known as "The King of Country" was born in 1952.  He had his first hit, Unwound, chart in 1981.  That was also the year when Prince Charles and Lady Diana were married, MTV was launched, and Luke and Laura were married on the soap opera, General Hospital. (Trust me, it was big.)
