Every time I head to the Black Hills, I spend an entire weekend sitting in casinos gambling. While I have no problem with this, my wife doesn't seem too pleased. This past weekend, we decided to take advantage of some of the other attractions. Ignoring all of the usual tourist traps (i.e MT. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Caves, etc.) we decided to cruise up 385 from Deadwood to Custer SD and re-experience some of our favorite childhood memories.

The Flintstones Bedrock City Theme Park & Full-Service Camping Resort is neither a theme park or resort. It's a $10 per person tourist trap that has a train, some random buildings based on a cartoon that was outdated 20 years ago, a "movie theater" that shows some cartoons, a small play area, and plenty of random photo-ops that you can do dirty things with.

Not having been there for around 25 years or so, I really wanted to check it out and see if it was still as cheesy as I remember. Sadly, the owners painted it, updated it, and made it better. I say sadly because I had promised the couple we were with that they were in for major disappointment. Unfortunately, we had a great time...and I would suggest that anybody looking to kill a weekend in the Black Hills spend the way-to-high price of admission, and just enjoy this throwback to a time when life was simpler. To dust off an old cliche, it truly is "fun for children of all ages"!
