will schuester, glee

As kids around the world continue to put off their summer reading lists and inevitable Trapper Keeper shopping trips, teachers are already prepping to head back to school. And it's very likely that one of those hardworking people could be the biggest inspiration your kid's life. While we can't possibly call out every real-life teacher who mentors a student, we can give props to the best teachers from TV.

Take a look back at some of the most inspirational educators to ever grace the tube:

7

Will Schuester, 'Glee'

Mr. Schue (Matthew Morrison) is a Spanish teacher at McKinley High, but he really shines as faculty adviser to the school's titular glee club, where he inspires his budding stars on the daily.

6

Charlie Moore, 'Head of the Class'

History teacher Moore (Howard Hesseman) took a class full of gifted students and taught them be critical thinkers, rather than coast on their sharp memories.

5

Mike Seaver, 'Growing Pains'

When Mike Seaver (Kirk Cameron) found out that promising student Luke Brower (Leonardo DiCaprio) was homeless, he gave him a home and kept him in school.

4

Gabe Kotter, 'Welcome Back Kotter'

Hip teacher Mr. Kotter (Gabe Kaplan) whips a gang of screw-ups known as the Sweathogs into lean, mean, learning machines.

3

Vic Racine, 'My So-Called Life'

Angela Chase's (Claire Danes) substitute teacher Vic (Roger Rees) inspired his poetry class so much that other students actually skipped their classes to sit in on his.

2

Mr. Collins, 'The Wonder Years'

Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) had all but given up on algebra, but this patient teacher (Steven Gilborn) wouldn't let him quit until he got it.

1

George Feeny, 'Boy Meets World'

Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) held jobs as a sixth grade teacher, high school principal and college professor throughout the show's run and could always be counted on to give Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and the gang some serious life lessons.
