If you're like me, the thought of sitting in a dentist's chair strikes fear into your heart. As terrifying as a dental procedure can be, just be thankful this guy won't be performing your next root canal.

Clay Allison was a notorious outlaw and gunslinger in the late 1800's. His deadly pistol earned him a reputation all over the west, particularly for his famed "showdown" with legendary lawmen Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson in Dodge City, Kansas.

In the summer of 1886, Allison had led a cattle drive from New Mexico to Wyoming, While in Cheyenne, he suffered a toothache and went to see a local dentist. The dentist, presumably overwhelmed with his own fear, accidentally pulled the wrong tooth.

The mistake set Allison into a rage. Legend has it, he held the dentist down and grabbed a pair of forceps. He then began pulling the dentist's teeth, one by one. Luckily for the poor dentist, his screams were heard by the local townspeople, several of whom came running to his aid and pulled Allison away.

Fortunately, Allison didn't stay in Wyoming long. The following year, he was killed in his ranch in Pecos, Texas. It is uncertain what became of the dentist. However, if he continued his practice, let's hope he took great care not to accidentally pull the wrong tooth ever again.
