Threat of Violence Received Against Natrona County High School [AUDIO]

The Natrona County School District says it’s working with local law enforcement after a threatening letter was received by staff at a Casper high school.

The letter warned an attack on Natrona County High School would take place Wednesday.

School district officials say classes through Wednesday will continue as regularly scheduled. Casper Police Chief Chris Walsh says the warning is being taken seriously by the Casper Police Department.

We are investigating this as a terrorist threat – that is a felony that can carry up to three years in prison,” Walsh said. “I can assure you everything is being done between the police department and the school district.”

Walsh would not say whether investigators have a suspect. He also would not reveal when Natrona County High School staff received the letter. Walsh did say, however, that students and residents will notice enhanced security and added patrols around Natrona County High School as the investigation continues.

Natrona County School District Superintendent Dr. Joel Dvorak says the threat against Natrona County High School is controllable. However, Dvorak also says parents will have the option to keep their children away from any Natrona County School District school on Wednesday as CPD continues its investigation.

You can make the call as to whether or not you want your child to attend school that day,” Walsh said. “We wouldn’t be having school on the 31st if we thought there was a threat we couldn’t manage, however, we always do leave the right to making that decision under normal processes to the parent.”

Lockdowns did not take place at any district schools Monday after officials notified parents of the terroristic threat.

District officials and police urge residents to call 911 to report suspicious activity.
