Wyoming seniors Jacob Hollister and Chase Appleby were named Mountain West Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week Monday.

Both played significant roles the Cowboys’ upset of then 13th-ranked Boise State last Saturday, 30-28.

Hollister, a senior tight end, came up with career-highs of six catches for 144 yards. He also hauled in a career-best two touchdowns, of 19 and 28 yards. Hollister’s first TD grab pulled Wyoming within 14-7 in the second quarter. His 28-yard TD catch brought the Pokes within 21-17 in the final minute of the first half. Hollister averaged 24 yards per reception. His 27-yard catch in the fourth quarter helped set-up Wyoming’s game-tying TD.

Appleby had the game-winning sack and forced fumble that led to the safety and gave UW its first lead of the game. The senior nose tackle finished three solo tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles. Appleby came off a twist along the Cowboys’ defensive line and crashed into Boise State QB Brett Rypien. That collision knocked the ball loose, and it bounced out of the back of the end-zone for a safety and gave Wyoming the upset, 30-28, over the nationally-ranked Broncos.

This is the first MW weekly honor for both players. They are the fourth and fifth players from UW to receive the conference’s weekly accolade.

San Diego State sophomore kicker John Baron was chosen as MW Special Team Player of the Week.
