Tyler Farr, ‘A Guy Walks Into a Bar’ – ToC Critic’s Pick [Listen]
Tyler Farr does heartbreak like Miranda Lambert does crazy. His new song ‘A Guy Walks Into a Bar’ is a dark story wrapped around a decades (centuries?) old joke. Spinning something familiar is the quickest way to build a hit, and Farr’s first single from his second album should be his biggest yet.
While the lyrics are sharp, it’s the singer’s delivery that makes this song cook. Farr proved his vocal capabilities on ‘Redneck Crazy’ and (especially) ‘Hello Goodbye.’ ‘A Guy Walks Into a Bar’ finds him throwing himself into the emotion of a song like never before.
“A guy walks into a bar / Orders a drink, sees a girl that catches his eye / Asks her if she wants another, they fall for each other and end up lovers / They laugh, cry, hold on tight and make it work for a little while / Then one night her taillights fade out into the dark / And a guy walks into a bar,” he sings at the chorus.
Melissa Peirce, Jonathan Singleton and Brad Tursi penned this new track. The second verse is their best:
“I’d laugh too if my heart would let me / Keeping it light will probably help to get me over you / I’m walking, talking, drinking proof / The cliche in a corner booth / Ain’t nothing new.”
Farr has worked hard to get to a point where he's being offered top-notch songs. He's earned the right to record 'A Guy Walks Into a Bar,' a song that's sure to take his career to new heights before deer hunting season begins.
Why Fans Will Love It: Farr's vocal performance is arresting. The song is sharp and very relatable without being cliche.
Key Lyrics: "They laugh, cry, hold on tight and make it work for a little while / Then one night her taillights fade out into the dark / And a guy walks into a bar"
