That will cut your recess short.

Doug Smith, Principal of Southridge Elementary School on Knollwood Drive, got a call from Casper Police around noon saying that a bear had been sighted near the 2900 block of Belmont drive, and to get the students inside immediately.

CY Middle School also brought kids inside as a precaution.

Police and officers from the Game and Fish Department combed the area, but by early afternoon had still not found signs of the animal.

Janet Milek with Game and Fish says a man thought he saw a bear in his back yard late this morning, but the sighting is still unconfirmed.

If indeed the bear is in town, she says it isn't completely surprising. She explained that this is the time of year that yearling bears are expelled from the den by their mothers and may roam the area looking to establish a territory of their own.
