United Blood Services' office in Casper is taking donations this week for the injured victims of the Sunday terrorist attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., according to a news release.

United Blood Services nationwide have been sending blood to Florida.

United Blood Services centers are asking donors to replenish local supplies and help assure blood is available should the Orlando, Fla., area community require it.

The UBS center at 2801 E. Second St. is taking donations this week. It encourages donors to make appointments.

Blood drives are also scheduled throughout the Casper area this week and in surrounding communities. Donors may call 877-827-4376, or visit its website to make an appointment.

“When tragedy strikes, it’s the blood on the shelves that saves lives,” said Justin Irish of United Blood Services. “That’s why we rushed to help the Orlando community and why we are asking donors now to replenish this area’s blood supply.”

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height and weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger. Donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.

Donors can save about 20 minutes by completing their Fast Track Health History the day they donate found on the website.

United Blood Services is this area’s community blood provider and serves patients in 108 hospitals in the region. Its network is one of the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit blood service organizations. It is a founding member of America’s Blood Centers and the AABB, formerly the American Association of Blood Banks.
